Series four Episode 11. Hadith – Forty Gems of Beauty. Tune in to learn about the basic teachings of Islam. Tahir Selby is joined by Alex Borthwick to discuss the third source in Islam – Hadith. We will be discussing the 40 hadith from the book ’40 Gems of Beauty’ by Hazrat Mirza Bashir Ahmad M.A. In this programme they will discuss Hadith No. 33 – Respect the respectable chiefs of other people. No. 34 – Pay wages to the worker. No. 35 – The worst feast. No. 36 – The upper hand. No. 37 – Leave behind your heirs. No. 38 - Every person is a ruler. No. 39 – Seeking knowledge. No. 40. – Every truth is the lost property of a Muslim.

Episode 8. The program begins with discussing of the types of chest pains and what could be considered as dangerous. The panellists then discussed the cardiovascular risk factors and further differentiated between cardiac and non-cardiac chest pains. The program highlighted the various methods of assessment of a chest pain and ways of ruling out a possibly dangerous condition. Finally, the program discussed the treatments available in case of chest pain resulting from coronary heart issues.

In this programme we will discuss about the Holy Prophet’s (saw) personality and character and his purity of mind and cleanliness of body.

Episode 18. Beliefs and Theories on Human Origins & Universe Part I. Dr Mohammed Iqbal with guests Amjad Hussain and Arif Ahmed explore beliefs of primitive societies and ancient civilisations on human origins- including Biblical views and how they came to differ from Science after the period of Renaissance and Enlightenment in Europe.

Episode 53. Light. Amongst the numberless treasures of the Holy Quran we find the exquisite line 'Allah is the Light of the Heavens and the earth' which forms part of a beautiful and breath-taking verse referred to as 'the Light verse' (Q 24:36). Light is a theme oft recurring in the Islamic tradition and one which we find present in the poetry and ritual of both East and West. From the colourful, glowing lanterns of the Chinese New Year to the Hindu festival of Diwali to Holy Light in Christendom, Faith in Focus examines the symbolism and sanctity of Light in different faiths and cultures and explores our human fascination with this wonderful feature of our existence on this earth.

Episode 4. We will explore the clashes between culture and religion which lead to misconceptions about Islam and women’s rights. We’ll distinguish between the culture/politics of Islamic Republics and the true religious teachings of Islam as set out in the Holy Quran by comparing the oppressive laws of some countries in the name of Sharia Law, with the actual rights bestowed upon women in the Holy Qur’an by Allah Almighty. We’ll mention how in many cases, law itself evolves from religion and morality. Through doing so we’ll seek to combat the critiques of those who describe religious doctrine as outdated and instead prove that the Holy Qur’an is a scripture for all times.

Episode 55. Sin V - Wrath. How do we define anger? How does the Islamic definition on anger compare to that found in other faiths? What is the impact of anger upon our worldly and spiritual lives? What remedies does Islam offer for the issue of anger? Has the impact of anger changed over time?

We then discuss Islam’s understanding on citizenship starting with Hazrat Bilal (ra) and his emancipation. We also examine the lives of Najashi and Luqman, who were noble righteous individuals. We briefly examine Islam’s impact in Africa and then the trans-Atlantic slave trade. We focus on the erosion of complete civil liberties of slavery and Jim Crow laws. We examine the popular black thinkers in America and Africa, such as Du Bois, Blyden and Duse Ali, who aligned themselves to Islam that later Ahmadi missionaries would study.

Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddique. Part 1. In light of all that has been said about the concept of Islamic Caliphate, this episode will look at the life and works of the first khalifa of Islam Hahdrat Abu Bakr Siddique (may Allah be pleased with him). Regarded as one of the closest companions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the first man to accept Islam, learn about how he came to be a khalifa and what values the institution truly stood for.

This episode of Faith In Focus will seek to study how man's search for beauty has led him to produce dazzling works of art & literature, some of breath-taking craft and power, inspired him to traverse the earth in pursuit of the wonders of the natural world, and drawn him into seeking connection and union with the Divine. We shall survey paintings and poetry, scriptures and scientific tracts, art and aesthetic theory, to try and uncover whether it really is so that in Beauty lies the Ultimate Truth, and in truth the very essence of beauty.
